July of 1989, I had this picture taken of myself. There's this one and another to come...
We're about nine months out, now, it's January 3rd, 1991. Dan calls up Nancy out of the blue and Nancy tells Dan EVERYTHING about me and the ex! Dan left a message for her telling her that he may have found the "perfect person for your Problem Child friend, Deb". Okay... you all know me, right?
This picture was taken while at Minneapolis Business College. Dan had just proposed (unofficially) and made it official the following month with the ring the night before my birthday. March, 8, 1991, is when we became engaged. We continued seeing each other (daily... much to the annoyance of family and friends). hahaha
(Here is the whole "Legal Secretary Class" of 1991! )
In this picture, the polo shirt Dan is wearing is one I made for him. I continued on with my hobby of sewing for a while and he really enjoyed being on the receiving end. HAHA
As mentioned earlier, Dan and I became engaged on March 8, 1991. We continued on through the years while Dan attended Lakewood Community College and obtained his AA degree. Once he obtained that he took some other of his physchology classes at Metro State University and then it was on to the University of Minnesota - Mortuary Science program. He was there for about a year when we decided to get married. The initial reason was to move out of state so his education wouldn't be so costly.
This is one such photo of myself...
This is one of the few... very few pictures of myself that I actually liked.
(...and they say Pices are photogeneic)
This was taken in about April of 1994. I was still working at the Shalom Home and had just worked a double-shift.
Wedding Reception Set-UP...
Here we are on July 27, 1994, setting up the Fellowship Hall for the wedding at Roseville Baptist Church. From left to right you have Dan, Myself, my "little brother" Andy, and Dan Gutche. A mutual friend. I actually met Dan Gutche through Nancy as well, although, I don't recall the circumstances... probably a party she had at her apartment in 89 or 90.
Here you have a picture of Sharon Snelling on the right (the Matron of Honor) and my Aunt Linda taking a picture of me.
In May of 1990, I met Dan Kabes and Mark Route. I thought the two of them were positively hilarious! The best sense of humor I had seen in a long time!

Dan was seeing one of my good friends, Nancy. It wasn't anything serious I am told. Well, the months go by and...
I graduated from Highschool in 1990... Cambridge Highschool
Then later in the month of June, another of my closest friends gets married. Anyone remember Melissa Barnett? Well, she married Jon Mills, III and they moved away.
At this wedding, I met someone that, I well... let's just say Alex K. was a HUGE misjudgement on my part that ended very, very poorly... Moving on...
Immediately after highschool (July 9, 1990) I started attending Minneapolis Business College.
Well, after a short while, Dan and I began dating on January 4, 1991. (this was about two weeks or so after a nasty break-up). Here's our story...
What did he call me? Problem Child... oooh no! Yeah... I wanna KNOW, who HE thinks is so perfect for me.
Okay, so Nancy and I go to lunch and she's thinking it's either Dan or it's Mark. I'm thinking it's not Mark. She says it's gotta be Dan then. I told Nancy not to call him back until I was there.
So, I get done with work and I go over to her apartment and we call Dan together. He and Nancy were talking for a little while, as I'm chompin' at the bit! I finally get on the phone and I'm steamin at this point. Just seathing!
Dan finally says "yeah, so, do you wanna know who I found for you?" I said... and I quote... "Yes, I want to KNOW who you THINK is SO PERFECT for me!" ...
in a very small voice, he says .. ahem.. "me". My jaw hit the floor. I couldn't believe it. I asked Nancy how she felt about it and she told me to go for it. So I did...

We were blissfully happy.

I've never been happier. We got through that obstacle and have moved on together. All pictures from this point out are of our lives together.
By this point, Dan and I started to have some family and his very close friend die off. His Uncle Chuck died in 1991 and then his best friend, Mark, died in May of 1992. This was a particularly rough spot for Dan and we got through it and he continued on with his education. Around this time too, I lost my "Great Gramma Wilson". In July of that year, Dan and I had this picture was taken.

We took pictures of ourselves to add to resumes that we sent out to different employers to try to obtain a job before we moved out to whereever it was going to be.

My Uncle did my hair and make-up and wanted a somewhat reflective/serene picture of me. I think he got it...
Here is the wedding party... from Back Left to Right... Andrew Racer; Dan Gutche; Mike Route (hiding in the way back) his youngest brother Greg Route, Mark Peterson (Best Man); Middle Row: Sharon Snelling (Matron of Honor); Front Row: Dennis Racer (my daddy); Me... Dan Kabes (the best hubby in the world) and Mike Berglund... (he is now a Rabbi... WAY TO GO MIKE!!!) We had one person stand up for us and the others were all important to us and we asked them to be ushers.
From Left to Right... Mike Route, Greg Route, Me, and Dan. The roses symbolize Mark Route and Melvin Kabes... two exceptionally wonderful gentlemen that are sorely missed.
Below is a picture of my mother, Barb and Dan Gutche.
Above is the generation photo. My mother, me and my grandmother, Laurel. I have always loved her name. Laurel Mae is so very pretty!
To the right... well, kinda self-explanatory. The picture is due to the clinking glasses.
Here's to a very happy life together! Cheers!
